Terraced house, now flats, and attached area railings. c1827,
probably laid out for John Hughes, with later additions and
alterations. Ashlar over brick with slate roof, tall stuccoed
brick end stacks with cornices and iron railings. Double-depth
plan with central hallway.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys on basement, 5 first-floor windows. Ashlar
detailing includes 3 incised lines at fist floor; crowning
frieze and cornice with blocking course; pilasters to sides of
door have incised Greek key motif and open pediment. To left
at ground and first floor and to centre, first floor are blind
openings, otherwise 6/6 sashes, all in plain reveals and with
sills. Central entrance, flight of 5 steps to 5-panel door
(upper panels raised and fielded) with fanlight with batwing
and circle type glazing bars.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: area railings and to sides of steps have
arrowhead bars and dogbars with anthemions to stanchions.
HISTORICAL NOTE: formerly part of the north side of Portland
Square.
Forms a group with Nos 4 (qv), 6 (qv) and 8-30 (even) (qv),
Albert Place and Nos 37 and 39 Prestbury Road (qv).
