Pair of villas in planned group. Early C19 by John Foulston.
Incised stucco with stucco detail; dry slate hipped roof with
moulded cornice with modillions to wide eaves soffit; rendered
end stacks. Double-depth plan plus service wings at rear left
and right and entrance porches set back to returns.
2 storeys; regular 6-window range with plinth and quoin
strips. Possibly original 12-pane hornless sashes, those to
ground floor with pilastered jambs and moulded hoods on
consoles. No.13 also has cast-iron verandah with reeded
columns and segmental arches with trailing scrolled detail,
and there is a 3-bay conservatory above the verandah in front
of the central window. Enclosed porches to return elevations
have corner pilasters and moulded entablature; original
panelled doors.
INTERIOR: not inspected but likely to be of interest.
Part of a good group of villas by Foulston, set within their
original landscape and thus remarkable in a national context.
