Formerly known as: Castle House.
House. C17 and C18. Timber-frame with painted brick infill
panels and stone rubble. Plain-tile roof. Integral brick end
stack. Projecting stepped stone eaves stack with
diagonally-set brick shaft. T-shaped plan with probable old
stone longhouse range, and timber-framed 2-bay cross wing.
EXTERIOR: single storey and attic. Front has stone range to
left with boarded entrance door with flat canopy and 2-light
casement; C19 brick dormer over with 2-light casement. To
right is gable-end of cross wing: large square framing 3
panels high with single large tension brace, jowled posts, tie
beam interrupted by 2-light casement, and collar. Cross wing
return side: irregular square framing 3 panels high masked by
stone stack to right and ground-floor 2-light casement to
left. Rear: cross wing gable-end to left has jowled posts
infilled with stone rubble and rendered gable-head, single
trenched-purlin roof evident. C20 attic casement and 2-light
casement at ground level. Rear of stone range masked by
single-storey hipped and tiled lean-to extension with plain
boarded door and 4-light casement. Gable of stone range to
east covered by single-storey tile-roofed agricultural storage
range reputed to form longhouse-type plan.
