Terraced houses. Built between 1845 and 1855 by Thomas Cubitt
who also owned the land. Stucco. Roof obscured by blocking
course.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and attic over half basement. 3 windows
each. The design of the terrace conforms to a common type, a
description of which follows. Elevation treated as full-height
and nearly full-width segmental bay. Stairs up to flat arched
entrance with overlight set in right-hand arc of bay. 2
windows to the left set in ground floor which has banded
rustication. All windows flat arched with projecting sills,
those on upper floors also have architraves. Floor-to-ceiling
windows open out onto first-floor balconies with cast-iron
railings; each of these windows has an entablature with a
frieze of 3 floral roundels and a cornice supported by a pair
of console brackets. Storey band between second floor and
attic. Centre attic window is blocked. Plain entablature band
and projecting cornice above. The following differ from the
common type. Attic window of No.1 unblocked. Overlight to No.3
has margin lights. First-floor balconies to Nos 1, and 5-7 are
supported by cast-iron brackets. Entrance to No.19 on return;
it is flat arched and set in an aedicule consisting of a pair
of Tuscan pilasters topped by an entablature; rustication
carried across return as is storey band between second floor
and attic; 2-window range, those near the corner are blocked.
2 x 2 sashes of original design to attic and second-floor
windows. 1 x 3 sashes of original design to first floor
windows. Stacks to party walls.
INTERIOR: not inspected. Railings to stairs and areas. Nos
1-19 form a group with Nos 2-24 (qv).
