Old Smithy and attached house

GV II

House and attached smithy. Probably early C19; altered. Brown
brick (the facade whitewashed), slate roofs on 2 levels.
Double-depth single-fronted house with former smithy attached
to right.
EXTERIOR: the 2-storey one-window house has a segmental-headed
doorway to the left, with a board door, unhorned sashed
windows on both floors (8/8 at ground floor, 4/8 above), and a
gable chimney to the left. Attached smithy: one storey;
2-window range.
Small front outshut flush with the house with an altered
square window, and a set-back main range which has a wide
doorway with a board door and a small oblong window to the
right with board shutters. Tall gable chimney to the right and
another attached to the gable wall of the house.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Forms group with Nos 17-23 to the left (qv), Nos 29-31A to the
right (qv), No.1 Churchgate to the rear and right (qv) and Nos
2-6 Back Botanic Road opposite (qv).
