Detached house and studio. 1873. By T Batterbury and WF
Huxley. For the marine painter Edwin Hayes. Red brick with
hipped tiled roofs. 3 storeys and semi-basement. 4 windows.
Entrance on right hand return. Left half of house projecting
with ground floor bay window of 3 lights having gauged brick
flat arches (slightly shaped) and friezes of small panes;
tiled penthouse roof. Similar 2-light bay window to right. 1st
floor, gauged brick flat arches (slightly shaped) to recessed
sashes. Plain brick band at 2nd floor level. 2nd floor, 2
sashes to left, 1 to right. Deep, plastered, coved eaves
cornice with large pargeted flowers executed by illustrator
Frederick Barnard who lived next door at No.37.
