Farmhouse, formerly small manor house. Early C15 with later additions and
alterations. Timber framed and brick with colourwashed render. Plain
tiled roof, probably originally thatched. Two storeys and attic. Formerly
central open hall with 2-storey wings to either end. Entrance front:
slightly projecting wing to left which has, at ground floor level, a 3-
light casement (of C19 date as is all the fenestration). The jettied first
floor has a similar window and the gable is jettied with a blocked 2-light
window. To right of this the hall range has a gabled porch at left with a
½-glazed door and at right of that are three 3-light ground floor
casements. The first floor also has three 3-light casements. To the ridge
at left of centre is a C17 stack of 2 flues. The right hand gable end has,
at ground floor level, a 3-light window, a 2-light window to right of the
first floor and a similar 2-light window to the attic. Rear: projecting
outshut with a catslide roof at left of C19 and C20, with a ½-glazed door
at right and left. To right of this, slightly recessed, is a wing with a
3-light ground floor casement and a first floor 2-light casement. To left,
at first floor level, is a 2-light flat-roofed dormer window. Two-flue
stack at left.
Interior: The ground floor room in the northern wing has a heavily-moulded
beam which may be brought from elsewhere. To the southern end of the
ground floor are further decorated axial ceiling joists. The central 2-bay
hall has moulded wall posts visible to both floors and a massive cambered
tie beam to the central truss. Within the attic is an octagonal crown-post
with slightly cavetto sides, richly moulded cap and base and 4 arched
braces connecting to a common rafter and the crown purlin. At either end
are terminal, square crown posts with further single arched braces. There
is soot blackening.
