Stanaway Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse. C17. Timber framed with colourwashed render and C20 plain tile
roof. Two storeys. Three-cell baffle-entry plan. Entrance front:
projecting gabled C20 single-storey wing at left with a 2-light C20 window
to ground floor and 2 lancet windows above. To right of this is, at right
of centre, a C20 single storey gabled porch with shallow gable which has a
C20 wooden framed 3-light casement window and at first floor level are 2
similar 3-light casements. To the ridge at right of centre is an axial
stack of brick. The right hand gable end is blank save for an attic C20
casement of 3 lights. Rear: Lean-to outshut at right with a pantile roof
and at left of this are two 3-light casements and a single casement. The
left hand gable end has an outshut at ground floor level and a 1/2-glazed
door at left and a 3-light casement at right. Single-light casement to the
first floor and a 3-light casement to the attic.
Interior: Chamfered ceiling beams to the ground floor room with bar stops,
wall posts and close-studded walling. Further close-studded walls to the
first floor with jowled wall posts and further chamfered ceiling beams.
Arched cupboards to one room with shaped shelves and late C18/early C19
classical surround. Wind bracing and wide floor boards to the attic. Some
C19 walling and planted timbers of 1930s date to the ground floor sitting
room. Winder staircase leading up from the lobby.
