Pair of houses, earlier C19. Multi-coloured stock brick, low
pitched, hipped slate roof with deep bracketed eaves soffit.
3 storeys, 3 bays each; outer bays defined by 2 stucco giant
pilasters with frieze above. Segment-headed doorways with
attached, fluted Doric columns, cornice head continuous with
panelled impost blocks. No.48 has original double door; No.47
has door replaced with window (houses later combined) and
later entrance extension of 2 storeys, 1 bay to side. Return
of No.48, defined by paired giant stucco pilasters with frieze
above. Side door with rusticated architrave, palmette
patterned frieze and mutule cornice. Round-arched ground-floor
windows in round-headed recesses with stucco string at spring.
Upper-floor windows have flat, gauged-brick arches, those at
1st floor long with wrought-iron balconies. All windows are
sashes with glazing bars. Stucco sill band to 2nd-floor
central 4 bays.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
