2 undercrofts and town houses, now 2 shops and offices.
Probably late C18. Flemish bond brown brick with grey slate
roof, ridge parallel with front.
4 storeys, 3 windows. Stair in recessed porch to No.70a, north
of No.70 and to No.72 south of No.74 suggest C18 enclosure of
the former Row, as at some property on north side of Watergate
Street.
The first storey has 12 repaired stone steps to recessed
porch, shopfront with 4 untapered fluted pilasters, stone
plinth, shop-window with one lower pane, transom and 2 upper
panes and 4-panel half-glazed door; the southern shop has
front rebuilt in brick and, south, flight of 13 stone steps in
round-arched recessed porch. The second and third storeys have
3 recessed 12-pane sashes each; the fourth storey three 6-pane
square sashes; sillband to second storey; wedge lintels;
painted stone sills to third and fourth storeys; cornice;
lead-clad parapet; a central ridge chimney.
INTERIORS have surfaces covered and probably original dogleg
stairs with steps covered and balusters boxed.
Rear not inspected.
