385/4/10001 The Hall of Friendship

GV II

Outbuilding, converted to village hall. C16 or early C17; altered and extended in C20. Coursed and dressed limestone. Stone tile roof with stone coped gable ends. Rectangular on plan with doorway in the west end of the south side. Originally single storey open to the roof; floor inserted late C20. 4-bay south front with three ashlar buttresses with weathered set-offs and ventilation slits with pointed heads; wide doorway in left bay with roll-moulded 3-centred arch; large C20 5-light mullion-transom window in bay to right of centre. Two tiers of ventilation slits in gable ends. Later stone rear wing and large C20 single-storey extension in the angle at the back.
INTERIOR: Inserted floor. Original 4-bay roof with raised cruck trusses with morticed collars and small yokes at apexes; two tiers of through purlins and curved wind-braces.
NOTE: This building was once an outbuilding of Latimers, which is said to have been the home of Hugh Latimer, Bishop of Worcester and Protestant martyr.
