Manor house. Late C17; altered C18 and early C19. Limestone
ashlar with stone slate roof with stone slate hipped roof and coved
eaves. Symmetrical rectangular plan, with 2 back wings; court
between filled in C18; 2-storey with attic. East facade has 5
original mullioned and transomed windows to upper floor: 6-light:
Three 4-light: 6-light; central doorway with moulded architrave,
thin pulvinated frieze and cornice breaking forward from moulded
string course; 3 sashes to either side at ground floor, with beaded
jambs and heads. Recessed chamfered mullioned windows to wings,
with transoms on ground floor. North wing has blocked 4-centred
arched doorway and C19 16-pane sash. Court infill has mullioned
and transomed windows and hipped roof to match. Chimneys have
moulded caps, one very tall at north end of main range.
Interior: two C18 panelled rooms at front: both formerly with Adam
style fireplaces, one remaining in situ, the other moved to an
upstairs room replaced with Regency fluted marble fireplace; both
have original brass inner fire surrounds, and raised box-fronted
fire baskets. Shutters to all sash windows. Staircase has C17
turned balusters. A stone salting tray of at least C18 remains in
cellar.
