Public house. C15 and c,1700. Various C20 additions to rear. Timber framed
and plastered with a thatched roof. 1 1/2 storeys. A former open hall house of
3-cell form, the upper end rebuilt and enlarged c.1700. 3 windows, C20 metal
casements with large single panes. 2 gabled dormers. 2 doorways: to right a
lobby entrance with C19 plank door; to left a boarded door. Both doorways
have matching openwork rustic timber porches. Internal stack and small gable
stack to left. Interior somewhat altered but some medieval studding visible
in upper rooms. Cambered tie beam of open truss is cut through for a doorway;
braces not visible, possibly removed. Original coupled-rafter roof intact,
considerably smoke-blackened. No collar purlin. Late C16 inserted floor in
hall has plain joists.
