2 houses, formerly the stable block and service wing of Callerton hall (q.v.).
Built by William Maughan C18, extensively remodelled 1892 by R. Norman Shaw.
Rendered stone with some ashlar dressings. Lakeland slate roofs. L-plan.
2 storeys, irregular fenestration.
Garden front: projecting wing to left has broad elliptical carriage arch with
keystone. In the re-entrant angle an oriel window with multi-moulded wood
cornice. Main part has C20 sashes and casements on ground floor; above are
two 6-pane sashes in half dormers with multi-moulded wood pediments. Cross-
gabled right bay. Gabled and hipped roofs with banded, rendered stacks.
Entrance side: similar detail; also an early C18 Gibbs surround.
Rear of projecting wing (i.e. towards Callerton Hall) has large blocked
elliptical carriage arch in raised ashlar surround with large coat of arms;
three 12-pane sashes over. Gabled roof with C18 lead figure on the kneeler.
