School. 1849 by Joseph Paxton, paid for by the Duke of Devonshire. Alterations and extensions c1980. Coursed squared sandstone and ashlar. Fishscale Westmorland slate roof with coped gables and plain kneelers. Stone and blue brick lateral stacks. Single storey, T plan with additional C20 south west wing not of special interest. Chamfered plinth, flush quoins. Stepped gable end to east has a 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion window with returned hoodmould. To the gable there is a First World War memorial clock with moulded stone surround and rectangular hoodmould. Below the window there are First and Second World War memorial plaques with moulded stone surrounds. Taller gabled wall behind has a narrow slit window with returned hoodmould. Symmetrical south elevation has a tall projecting entrance bay in the centre. Large doorway with chamfered surround and returned hoodmould. Panelled door with overlight. Sunk square panel above has the date 1849. Tall square bellcote on the gable. An open timber superstructure on a stone base and with a concave pyramid roof. Either side of the porch bay are 5-light recessed and chamfered mullioned windows with a pair of similar C20 2-light windows below.
