Grove Ash

Farmhouse. Probably C17, altered and extended early C18. Coursed,
squared marlstone with wooden lintels; plain-tile roofs with
ashlar and blue-brick stacks. L-plan. 2 storeys plus attic.
2-window early-C18 range has a 6-panel door, to right of centre,
plus a small blocked opening above the door and 3-light casements in the outer
bays. Roof has ashlar gable stacks. Rear has ashlar gable stacks. Rear has a
central full-height stair wing with a tall leaded window, and has
a flanking outshut. Earlier range, running forward from right of
front, has 3-light casements and numerous blocked openings. Gable
wall has remains of a chamfered plinth. Low outbuilding extension projects to
right of wing. Interior: large open fireplace and winder stair in the later
wing. Grove Ash is the site of a former village.
