8/137 Cross at junction of
- Church Street and School
Road

GV II

Cross. Late C19. Red sandstone ashlar and painted wrought-iron. Gothic
style. Octagonal base of 4 chamfered steps supporting shaft of square
section with stepped diagonal buttresses. Pierced cusped opening to each
face with hollow spandrels and wrought-iron railing to bottom; crenellated
cornice. Stepped pyramidal finial with raised letter "A" (for Arundel)
and patée fitched cross to top. C20 inscription plate on east side states
that the cross stands on the site of the lock-up of the "ancient manor and
borough of Ruyton". Included for group value.
