Group of 10 chest tombs. Mid-C18 to early C19. Sandstone ashlar. Row
of 5 very closely-spaced tombs aligned north-south with another 2 on same
alignment immediately to west; 3 further tombs a few metres to south-east.
Five in row have moulded plinths and capping with mixture of fluted and
plain corner pilasters; carved floral motifs to ends. Inscriptions to
top ledgers, ranging in date from 1780 to 1805, commemorating members of
local families. North tomb has inscription panel to north face in memory
of Richard Basnett of Wykey (died 1796), flanked by floral emblems; fluted
fans to spandrels. No tombs to west also have inscriptions to top ledgers,
southern dated 1739 and other illegible but probably roughly contemporary.
Three tombs to south-east, c.1800, with mixture of fluted and plain corner
pilasters and chamfered top ledgers. Recessed semi-circular inscription
panels to long sides and oval-shaped discs to ends.
