Farmhouse. Dated 1738, built for John and Elizabeth Sheppard. Dressed
grey sandstone, graded towards eaves; squared and thinly coursed sandstone
plinth; plain tile roof. 2 storeys over basement. Plinth, and parapeted
gable end to right with coping and shaped kneelers; external dressed
sandstone end stack to right with red brick top and integral brick
end stack to left. 5 bays; glazing bar sashes with exposed boxes,
painted moulded stone cills and painted lintels which have fluted
keystones with moulded top edge; 5 stone steps up to central door
with 5 flush panels (top 2 glazed) and large painted carved stone
triangular-headed datestone above with elaborate cartouche and lettered:
"John Eliz/Sheppard 1738". One-storey kitchen wing or wash house
set back to right. 2 or 3 gabled wings to rear. Interior not inspected
but likely to be of interest. The house forms part of a small C18
farmstead group including barn (q.v.) and possibe former brew house
(q.v.).
