School. Late C19; altered. Snecked sandstone rubble, slate
roof. Rectangular plan with extensions at both ends. Gothic
style.
The main range is a single storey over a basement which
exploits a fall in the ground (down to the bank of the River
Brun), with a 4-bay architectural front to the south. This has
an open-arcaded basement play area, with buttresses and
double-chamfered segmental-pointed arches; a main floor which
has 6-light mullion-and-transom windows with hood-moulds and
figured stops; and a steeply-pitched roof with coped gables
and a gable chimney at the east end. At the east end is a
ramped approach to a C20 entrance made in the side of the east
extension. The rear of this range has 4 windows like those at
the front. The east extension, facing onto the churchyard, is
of 2 unequal bays, that to the left having a gabled porch with
a blocked segmental-headed doorway and a side-window under one
hood-mould, and a crow-stepped gable with a sunk plaque carved
with the keys of St Peter, and that to the right gabled, with
a large canted mullion-and-transom bay window. Lower additions
at the south-east corner now link this building with the East
Range (qv). INTERIOR not inspected.
