House. C16 and C17. Brick laced flint with upper floor timber
framed with brick noggings, later wing brick. Stone slate roofs. 2-
storey with attics and part cellar. 3 bays with 2-bay wing.
Earlier structure with central stack with rooms either side, and
added bay on north now subdivided to larder and woodstore. To this
was added 1690-1700 stair hall and reception room in wing. 6-
panelled door over terrace, canopy removed, and 20-pane sashes with
brick segmental heads, probably replacement of early C19. Plat band
and timber moulded eaves cornice. Earlier block has various timber
and leaded casements. Small square framing 3 panels high with
straight tension braces to gable. Brick and flint ground floor
possibly replacement for lower framing. Block extended with brick
refacing in late C17 to south gable.
Interior: Open well stair with dado fielded and panelled, 2-turned
balusters to each tread, and wreathed rail. Stone flag floor.
Reception ,room and bedroom over with narrow fielded panelling and
bolection panel over moulded fire surround. Niches either side of
stack. Earlier structure with large scantling spine beams, newel
stair altered from earlier position behind stack, and Adam
fireplace introduced from house in Leicester. (Reference: Survey
