Farmhouse
II
Former house, now used as a farm building, C17th, altered. Sandstone rubble
with stone slate roof. Appears to be a surviving cross wing of a substantial
C17th house. 2 storeys. The west gable wall, facing the farmyard, has a
chamfered door surround to the right and a door with plain reveals to the
left. Above on the 1st floor is a partly blocked double-chamfered window
surround. Above that is a pitching hole with plain reveals. The north wall
has some double-chamfered window surrounds remaining. At the left-hand end
there is one on each floor, the ground-floor one being mutilated. Towards
the centre there is one on each floor, the ground floor one being blocked.
Towards the right there is one on the ground floor, now with a flat lintel.
The east gable wall has a similar surround on each floor, each with the
remains of a hood. The south wall is now covered by a later lean-to, but
has a large blocked fireplace with chamfered jambs and 4-centre head. The
roof structure was not accessible at the time of survey. A doorway said to
have come fron this building, dated 1662, is now re-erected in the grounds
of Dutton Manor (q.v.).
