House, C17th. Sandstone rubble with hipped stone slate roof. U-plan,
the detailed order of construction being complex. 2 storeys. Windows
double-chamfered with mullions and hoods. To the right of the door on
the north facade is a change in masonry, the left-hand part of the wall
being re-faced with watershot stonework but retaining the C17th dressings.
To the right of the door are a 3-light and a 4-light window, the former
having one mullion missing,,the latter having 2 mullions restored. On
the 1st floor are a former 3-light window now with one mullion, and a
complete 3-light window. To the left of the door is a 3-light window,
with 2 C17th surrounds on the 1st floor having a C19th sashed window
with glazing bars and plain stone surround between them. The door surround
is cyma moulded with a triangular head and hood and enters a lobby against
the fireplace, the chimney being to the right. The west wall has been
partly restored using old window surrounds to match the original. To the
left of the door is one now with a central mullion. To the right is one
of 3 lights. On the 1st floor are 2 of 3 lights with a central surround
with no mullions. The doorway is chamfered with a triangular head and a
hood. The east wall has 2 4-light windows, one with 2 lights blocked, a
blocked C17th surround on the 1st floor and a projecting chimney stack
which is a modern restoration. The rear walls of the west wing are blank.
The west wall of the east wing has a one-light and a 4-light window with a
narrow chamfered doorway between, and a 5-light window on the 1st floor.
Its south, gable, wall has a 4-light window on the ground floor, one of
3 lights on the lst floor and a one-light chamfered attic window. The
rear wall of the main house has 2 3-light windows on the ground floor, the
right-hand one with square mullions, and a 3-light window on the 1st floor.
Inside. The main room, entered from the front door, has a firehood
bressummer and a moulded shouldered fireplace of C18th date. The opposite
wall is timber framed with two wooden doorways with triangular heads with
small incised crosses. In the east wing is a C17th fireplace with chamfered
jambs and triangular head.
