Farmhouse, probably later C17, altered in C18. Coursed thin sandstone
rubble without quoins (possibly recladding), slate roof with 2 brick
chimneys. Three-bay baffle-entry plan. Two storeys; two plain doorways at
the junction of the 1st and 2nd bays (in line with the ridge chimney), 3
horizontal rectangular windows on each floor, and a small square window
above the right hand door, all with altered glazing. Lean-to at right end,
shed at left end. Rear wall, which faces into rising slope, has 4 windows
at ground floor, 3 of these with slab hoodmoulds, and that to the housepart
in the middle bay blocked; and 3 windows at 1st floor. Interior: appears
earlier than outer shell of building, with kitchen in 1st bay, housepart in
2nd bay, and 2 service rooms in 3rd bay (but axial partition removed);
housepart has inglenook with large stop chamfered bressummer, this and
kitchen each have one ovolo-moulded lateral beam; full-height timber-framed
partition between 2nd and 3rd bays; low tie-beams at 1st floor, that in the
middle bay apparently inserted or raised; smoke hood (now enclosed by light
panelling) continued in roof space in stone; timber-framed partition in
roof space, with wattle-and-daub infil; relocated staircase now blocks rear
window of housepart (original position not known).
