SD 51 SE ADLINGTON OLD SCHOOL LANE

School and house, dated 1815, now one house. Coursed squared sandstone,
stone quoins, stone slate roof, with one brick chimney at left gable, 2
at right gable. Square plan 2 x 2 rooms. Two storeys, symmetrical; 2
adjacent round-headed doorways in centre with plain jambs and small
keystones, blocked fanlights; one round-headed casement window each side
at ground floor, ordinary casements above them at 1st floor. In the
centre of the 1st floor is a rectangular stone tablet with incised
lettering:-

"This School for pious and useful learning
Was built by voluntary subscription
In the Year of our Lord 1815
R.P.B."

Left half of building was school, right half was master's house. Left
gable wall has 2 round headed casement windows on each floor, and both
gable walls have in the centre at 1st floor a tall arched recess, now
rendered. Rear wall has a round-headed window at ground floor of left
half of building, 3 other casement windows, and a modern glazed poch.
