Farmhouse, C17, part altered or extended in C18, now 2 dwellings. Coursed
thin sandstone rubble (part rendered) with some quoins, stone slate roof
with ridge chimney and chimneys on 2 gables. L-shaped plan of 3 bays with
rear wing to 1st bay. Two storeys end small single-storey extension at
right end. In centre a prominent 2-storey gabled porch, the upper floor
overhanging slightly, has large quoins, doorway with quoins offset to right,
a datestone at 1st floor above it lettered W (= James and Ellen Walmesley),

and a stepped 3-light stone mullion window with stepped hoodmould. To left
is an oblong window with 2 stone mullions and above this 2 casements with
glazing bars, and a stone mullion between them; to right of porch the 3rd
bay has been altered: moulded doorway next to porch, right corner of
house splayed obliquely. Rear wing has tall coupled windows with chamfered
heads and hoodmoulds. Interior not seen. Item shares farmyard with
Rough Heys Farmhouse (q.v.). (Ainsworth Homesteads pp. 94-8).
