House and warehouse, late C18 associated with handloom weaving, now club
and motor workshop. Coursed sandstone rubble (part rendered), roof on
2 levels of slates and some corrugated sheet, with cut down chimney on
left gable and ventilator on ridge of house. Double pile plan, house
3 bays and 2 storeys, warehouse 4 bays and 3 storeys. House symmetrical,
central pedimented doorway now reduced to window, and 2 other windows on
each floor all with plain surrounds. First bays of warehouse have
1st floor windows, 2nd floor loading doors (1st bay now rendered as club,
new door and window at ground floor); centre has square garage entrance,
right end has stone framed door with a cornice. Right return wall has
3 windows at ground floor, 2 on each floor above. Rear of warehouse has
blocked wagon arch to 1st bay, rest covered by 2 storey extension; rear
or house has 2 square windows sashed with glazing bars. History: probably
built by a putting-out cloth manufacturer; warehouse was used as smithy in
C19, has inserted fireplaces and chimneys, and living quarters at 1st floor.
