House, early to mid-C19. Brick with stone plinth, stone dressings,
hipped slate roof. Rectangular plan with rear wings. Two storeys and 5
bays, symmetrical; stone string course, cornice and parapet; doorcase with
rectangular fanlight and margin lights, porch of Ionic order, windows
sashed with splayed stone heads. Side wall chimney stacks to front rooms.
Extension of one bay at left end of ground floor, with modern 1st floor
extension above it. Side walls have 2-storey canted bays. Interior: very
elaborate plaster moulding to friezes and cornices, continued in varied
designs in all principal rooms, stairwell and landing: anthemion and
palmette in hall and front room left, vine in front room right, etc.
Panelled doors with Greek Key pattern. Open well staircase with open
string,scrolled brackets, columnar newels and coupled turned balusters.
House was home of William Bashall, proprietor of Farington Cotton Mill.
