Church, 1882-5, by Aldridge and Deacon. Stone, green slate roofs with
red ridge tiles. In a mixed Early English and early French Gothic style.
West tower, nave with aisles, chancel with north transept (housing organ)
with hipped roof, south chapel. Tower of 3 stages, the top half a high
belfry with very tall coupled lancet-shaped belfry louvres recessed
within deeply chamfered splays; buttresses to half height, diagonal on
west corners, angled on east, that on the south east corner continuing as
a round stair turret rising to a small conical spire; pyramidal hexagonal
roof; 3 octagonal pinnacles. Aisle with 4 lancets, nave with 4 triple-
lancets. Gabled porch on north side, with rounded moulding in splay of
arch, gabled corners, an overhanging crocketed canopy at the apex and a
central corbel for a statue (not present). Lady Chapel has triple lancet,
chancel has 3-light plate-traceried window with 2 cinquefoils and a
quatrefoil in the head. Interior: nave arcade of 3 columns each side,
alternately hexagonal with circular caps, and circular with hexagonal caps;
tall arches to tower and chancel, with continuous moulded chamfers; deep
splayed reveals to windows; kingpost roof supported by wall posts and
small hammer beams.
