Tomb of Joseph Williams (d.1849).
Marble tapering pedestal. Relief of the Pelican in her piety, drawing blood at her chest to feed her brood.
HISTORY: as the weathered epitaph makes clear, Williams as a surgeon who died as a result of tending patients during the severe cholera epidemic of 1849. The christian symbol of self-sacrifice was apt for this victim of England's last major outbreak of cholera. Listed for its historical interest.
