House with extensions, formerly 4 dwellings now 2. C16 or early C17,
extended later C17, C18 and C19, altered C20. Timber frame core with
stock brick nogging, extended in brick, part rendered. Tiled roofs. 2
bay core, probably an open hall originally, is to rear left with 3 bays
to front added to form an L. 2 more bays added to right, later additions
to right, left front and rear. 2 storeys. No. 42 has 3 and 2 timber
framed bays on ground floor brick to front. Entrance to centre of later
2 bay section to right, rendered ground floor, exposed framing on first
floor, 2 and 3 light C20 leaded casements. Ridge stack between 2 builds.
A C19 bays with a taller ridge to far right, all rendered. Roof hipped to
left over original 2 bay rear wing which is 1 storey and attic. Catslide
roof over lean-to outshut on left return. 3 casements. Large cruciform
C17 ridge stack between 2 rear wing bays, cement rendered. Rear gable
end has an entrance, exposed framing over rendered ground floor. A later
addition to left behind front range with a taller C20 further addition.
No. 44 is an C18 block added to front left, all rendered brick, 2 bays
projecting towards road, each separately roofed, that to front with a
lower ridge and hipped to front. Entrance at front end with two C19
sashes in reveals, 2 small casements in outer or left return. An
entrance and 3 and 2 light casements in inner or right return. Hipped
outshut on right return. Interior not inspected.
