C1820-30 early Calthorpe Estate villa, possibly an enlargement of our earlier
cottage. Two storeys stucco faced, 3 bay front but with slightly broader
area of blank wall to right. Low pitch gable end slate roof with flat
bracketed eaves; stucco chimmey stacks. Plinth; ground floor windows set in
shallow segmental arched panels, relief apron panels below sills. First
floor windows in architrave surrounds with very shallow cornices, the central
window with segmental pediments. All windows are glazing bar sashes. Elegant
entrance: porch with 2 pairs of Tuscan columns on moulded bases,pilasters to
wall: frieze with alternating trophies and metopes between triglyphs; shallow
projecting bracketed cornice. The porch is raised on platform of 5 shallow
stone steps. Broad two leaf door of 8 moulded panels flanked by attenuated
fluted Doric columns set in reveals; segmental fanlight overall with linked
circle and scroll pattern glazing. One storey extension to north side with
small round headed small pane window.
