Cottage. 1848 by F.O'Connor for the National Co-operative
Land Company; altered late C19 and late C20. Monk bond
brickwork on stone plinth to original part, slate roof.
Three-room front, one room deep, rear leanto (late C19
rebuild), late C20 rear wing forming 'L', all single
storey. All windows small pane, late C20 wooden casements.
Centre room projects slightly, gabled late C20 brick
porch, panelled door, single-light windows in returns;
single-light windows each side, rendered reveals, flat,
rubbed brick arches. Plain brick string course to foot
of gable, returned up verges, plain bargeboards, shaped
brackets at foot; quatrefoil stone ventilator. Either
side 2-light casement window, both widened a little,
rendered reveals, original flat rubbed brick arch to
right, head rebuilt on left. Double oversailing eaves
course. Centre rear chimney, gable chimneys slightly
corbelled out. Forms part of Chartist settlement, listed
principally for historical and sociological reasons (A.M.
Hadfield, The Chartist Land Company, 1970).
