Gossington Hall
II
Large detached dwelling. c1695. Brick, stone slate hipped roof with flat centre
section, two large brick stacks brick raised quoins; eaves cornice. A typical
compact block plan of the period, but with one single storey quadrant arm, in brick,
attached south-west corner. Two storeys plus attic, 5-windowed, sashes with glazing
bars; 3 hipped dormers with 2-light casements, central door, mid C20 under flat hood:
this entrance (north front) formed probably in C20. On return, east front, central
bay with pediment and lunette brought forward slightly, contains good 6-panel door in
architrave, under flat hood on brackets. On south front later C18 canted bay with
stone entablature; two of window openings blocked. Interior much modified, some
original panelled doors.
