Almshouses

Pair of almshouses in group of 10. 1913 by Sidney Barnsley, under the Will of
Edwin Gyde. Dressed squared limestone, concrete tile roof. Unlike others in
group, has only one front-facing gable, to left, and is stopped across slope,
but roof ridge continuous. l½ storeys, 2 over 3-light chamfered mullion
casement, with stopped hood at ground floor to No 9, and 3-light similar to No
10, with C20 2-light dormer window over. Original plank doors left and right in
deep chamfered surrounds, also further gable end door to No 9, flanked by a
2-light and 1-light casement, and under a 2-light casement. Two ridge stacks.
Small openings in twin-gabled Gyde Road front. One of five pairs in slightly
varied designs in the best Cotswold tradition. (Hyett, F A, Glimpses of the
