(north side)

13/57 Wickham Grange and Wickham House

28.6.60

GV II

House attached to later house to west (q.v. West Wickham); now 2
houses. Late C18, probably incorporating early C18 house; c1830
alterations. Dressed and squared limestone, ashlar bay; ashlar
chimneys; concrete tile roof. Three-storey, double pile plan; 3-
storey wing to rear. Front: originally plain 5-window elevation
with central doorway having Tuscan doorcase. Left 2 windows
replaced by 2-storey segmental bow with 2 curved 4-pane sashes in
plain openings with louvred shutters. Upper floor retains 6-pane
sashes with plain architraves, otherwise most sashes altered to 4-
pane; glazed doors to ground floor. Decorative iron verandah
added to right of bow. Modillion eaves cornice to main elevation,
bow also having open balustraded parapet. West side: moulded
cornice and sash fenestration as to front, partly obscured by
addition of West Wickham. Rear: wing appears largely rebuilt in
Cl9 with plain timber casement fenestration. Ridge-mounted chimney
with moulded cap. Eaves-mounted chimney with swept base to rear of
main part of building. Interior not inspected, front part
apparently totally remodelled internally when rebuilt.
