House, now byres and loft. Late C17 with C18 and early C20 alterations.
Sandstone rubble with corner boulder plinth, quoins and ashlar dressings;
stone-flagged roof with stone gable copings. L-plan. 2 storeys, 4 bays with
one-storey, one-bay left pent extension and one-storey, 2-bay rear wing. C17
chamfered irregular-block surround with recessed flat-Tudor-arched head to
boarded door in second bay; J. LAMB S HIGH incised on right jamb. Similar door
inserted in third bay; side stone steps to first-floor boarded door at right
of third bay;first bay has blocked wide ground-floor window with wide thin
lintel over inserted light, and 2 pitching doors above; recessed diamond-
shaped stone panel over C17 door, square lights on each floor in fourth bay;
wood lintels, most renewed. Boarded door in left extension. Roof has cyma-
moulded kneelers and left end truncated square chimney. Rear elevation shows
full-height recessed centre, with some quoins and 2 wood lintels, probably the
inner wall of a demolished stair.
Interior shows ground floor altered, with stalls, pens and hay rack. First
floor has 2 rooms, each with C17 stone fire surround in left wall: that at
left corniced with moulded surround, that in centre wall with flat Tudor arch,
and moulded surround partly obscured by plaster; and small blank rectangular
recess in lintel. Roof has upper cruck trusses with tie beams, high collars,
and saddles; 2 levels of trenched purlins, overlapping; renewed rafters and
ridge piece; spurs on outer trusses; tie beams and intermediate attic floor
beams all with stepped-concave-stopped chamfers and cut to receive floor joists,
now removed. Some panelling at attic level continuing division formed by
central wall. Blocked 2-light-windows in gable peaks. Rear wing shows single
truss and principal rafters with swept eaves.
