7/21 The Mount

II

House; late C19; squared random rubble, with 2-coloured brick
dressings to window heads and flush band at first floor level,
timber framing to gable; tiled roof, crested ridge. 2 room front,
one storey with attics, with rear wing connecting to look-out
tower. Entrance front has single-storey porch in centre, with
brick steps, arched head with small window over, roof projects
forward on timber posts, glazed sides with seats below. To right a
3-light casement window, flat-pointed head; to left projecting
chimney breast with slight offsets and panelled stack. Above two
2-light dormers with rendered infill to gable; gable chimney to
right. Main roof has wide eaves and verge projection. Gable to
left has one-storey canted bay with hip roof; above wall and gable
timber framed, rendered infill and 3 timber weatherings; a 2-light
window; timber gable finial. Stone ground floor extends to look-
out tower, upper timber framed floor added later. 3-storey look-
out tower, top floor 3-light windows each side, with above a stumpy
pyramid roof, with plain and shaped tiles, gablets on each face,
timber finial and weather vane. Access to top floor by external
timber stairs. All windows diamond leaded lights. Said to have
been built by Gloucester solicitor as summer retreat.
