House. C15 and C16, altered in C18 and C20. Timber framed, clad with C20 waney
weatherboards, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. 2-bay hall facing S with
late C16 axial stack at E end. 2-bay crosswing to W, with early C18 stack at
rear, and C20 extensions beyond. One-bay extension to E of hall, C17. Crosswing
of 2 storeys, main range of one storey with attics. Ground floor, 5 C20
casements. First floor, 4 more, of which 2 are in gabled dormers and one is in
a feature gable. 2 C20 doors, one in a gabled porch. The hall has heavy
studding with arched braces trenched to the inside, and a late C16 inserted
floor comprising a chamfered axial beam with lamb's tongue stops and chamfered
joists of horizontal section with lamb's tongue stops supported on pegged
clamps. Large wood-burning hearth. Roof of hall rebuilt in C18. The C16 main
frame of the crosswing is present, with a blocked original window in the left
return, but the floor and other parts have been substantially rebuilt in the
C18. The extension to the right has a wood-burning hearth with rounded back, a
chamfered transverse beam with joists of various types and dates, and early
floor boards. The wall framing has been substantially altered in the C18. This
building has passed through the stage of being converted to 3 cottages,
subsequently combined. RCHM 14.
