II
House. Late C16, altered in C18. Timber framed, weatherboarded and plastered,
roofed with handmade red plain tiles. L-plan facing S, comprising a crosswing
at the left end with a C19/20 internal stack at the front left corner, and a
main range with an internal stack at the right end. C19 single-storey extension
to rear of crosswing, with an internal stack at the end. One storey with
attics. 2-window range of C20 casements. Late C19 half-glazed door with plain
overlight. The front is weatherboarded, the remainder plastered, with an
exposed base wall of red brick in Flemish bond one metre high in the right
return and rear of;the main range. The ridge of the crosswing is lower than
that of the main range. Jowled posts, curved bracing trenched inside heavy
studding partly exposed internally in the crosswing. The main range has a
deeply chamfered axial beam, and some plain joists of horizontal section.
Clasped purlin roof in left crosswing, other ceiled. Most of the timber frame
is concealed by internal finishes.
