Farmhouse. C16, remodelled early C19; C20 addition at south-east corner. Solid
rendered walls, probably of stone. Hipped slated roof with chimneystack on each
gable. L-shaped, the main range with 3-room and through-passage plan which
included a parlour at the upper end in C16. In C19 the plan was modified to insert
a staircase in the through-passage and a new chimneystack in the hall, the latter
being reduced in depth to make space for a corridor at the rear. 2 storeys. 4-
window front with 8-paned sashes in all but the left-hand ground-storey window,
which has a C20 metal casement. Doorway in second bay from right containing double
3-panelled doors, the top 2 glazed; patterned fanlight, panelled reveals. Porch
having 2 unfluted Doric columns of granite with unusual capitals and no bases; flat
moulded granite hood.
Interior: at upper end of hall is a plank-and-muntin screen with chamfered studs
having oddly angled diagonal-cut stops. On reverse (parlour) side the studs have
three-quarter-round mouldings and the head-beam is moulded. Parlour also has a
large gable fireplace with segmental arch. Dado of re-set late C16 or early C17
panelling, some of the faces of the panels being carved. Gable fireplace at lower
end is C20, but with old wood lintel above. Rear wing at south end has chamfered
beam in ground-storey room. Roof-space not inspected; no roof-timbers are visible
in upper storey.
The farm buildings include a good range of pigsties, which are separately listed.
