House. C17 or earlier in origin. Whitewashed rendered cob on stone rubble footings:
thatched roof, gabled at left end ; projecting front lateral stack, left end stack.
Plan: Single depth block, 2 rooms wide with a lobby entrance in front of the stair.
Possibly one build with April Cottage, adjoining at the right, the right hand room of
Brookfield is a C17 hall or parlour.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-bay front with a central thatched porch and early
C19 20-pane sash windows.
Interior: The right-hand room has an open fireplace with a massive red sandstone
lintel, slightly curved, in 2 pieces. Chamfered axial beam and exposed joists. The
left-hand room has a C20 fireplace, possibly concealing earlier features, and exposed
closely-spaced ceiling beams, mostly replaced.
Roof: Not inspected at time of survey but may be of interest: an inspection could
necessitate revising the suggested dating.
