II
Bank barn. Circa early C19, with alterations of circa mid C19 and few later
alterations. Slatestone rubble with stone dressings. Hipped slurried slate
roof with ridge tiles.
Plan: Bank barn with cow house at ground floor and granary loft over. To
rear right a projecting wing which may have been a horse engine shed. 2
further bays added to the right end in circa mid C19, with an outshut along
the rear of the main building.
Exterior: Front has 4 doorways at ground floor with segmental stone heads,
the 2 central doors half blocked. Central upper loading door with pitched
slate hood, small 2-light window at upper level to right. Straight joint to
right, one bay at the same height with door with cambered stone head. Second
straight joint with one further bay set back to right as a lean-to, with door
with segmental head and ventilation slit at upper level. The left side has
door with timber lintel to loft; straight joint to rear outshut whch also has
door with timber lintel. The rear has a central door to the loft; to right a
single storey lean-to of C19. To left the engine house, with loft over and
access through rear door.
Interior: the main buildng has a 5-bay roof, principal rafters, tie-beam and
king posts, with 2 rows of purlins resting on the backs of the principals and
iron braces to the tie-beams. Plastered walls. The rear wall has a large
sack hoist pulley wheel, geared from below, with wooden cogs, metal spokes
and frame. 2 upper window openings in the right end wall, formerly external.
At ground floor, a doorway with segmental head leading into the rear range.
