5/325 Winding engine house on site of
Wheal Uny Mine at SW 695 407

Winding engine house (or "whim") to former tin mine, now derelict. Probably
later C19. Dressed granite blocks and killas rubble, with bob wall of large
granite blocks, window arches of brick, brick upper stage to chimney; now
roofless. Rectangular plan on north-south axis, with bob wall to north, chimney
attached at south-east corner. Three stages, with round-headed openings including
2-stage window in bob wall (the stages separated by timber beams), cylinder
door in rear wall, and some square headed openings in side walls including
damaged doorways with timber lintels. Tapered cylindrical chimney with moulded
brick cornice to stone stage, top of brick stage missing. History: see item 5/316
above.
Forms part of very conspicuous and attractively sited group, within sight of
remains of Basset Mines at Carnkie, Carn Brea (q.v.).
