Farmhouse. Circa late C16 with C18 and C19 additions and C20 alterations. Stone
rubble, hung with asbestos tiles at front. Slurried scantle slate roof with
gabled end on right and hipped left end and with clay ridge tiles including some
early crested ridge tiles. 2 larger rendered lateral stacks at back rising
through outshut, the hall stack has set offs. Long 4 room and through passage
plan with a single storey outshut at the back. 2 storey. Asymmetrical 4 window
west front. C20 2-light plastic casements. Central doorway with chamfered granite
4-centred arch frame with leaf and boss (or similar shapes)carved in the
spandrels; C20 door to left of front. At the rear the main roof is carried down
over the the single storey outshut which has C20 plastic casements and C20 stone
porch at centre. C20 conservatory on south gable end.
Interior: Passage rear doorway, now inside outshut, has chamfered granite
fireplace with pyramid stops and basket arch. Former kitchen (to right of
centre) has rough timber central to granite rubble fireplace with cloan oven.
Both rooms have unchamfered cross-beams. The through passage has been widened as
stairhall. All the internal joinery seems to be C20 including the stairs. First
floor not inspected but roof over stairs appears to have straight principle
rafters.
Note: a reused lintel over gateway in front (west) of the house has date 1574
and this is likely to be when the house was built.
