Description

WERRINGTON LANGDON
SX 38 NW
9/300 Wodd-a-Cott
-
GV II

House. Circa C17 or early C18. Rendered and painted stone rubble and cob. Asbestos
slate roof with hipped end on left and gable end on right. Rag slate roof to outshut
across rear. Projecting stone rubble end stack on right and brick shaft to axial
stack to right of centre.
Plan: Original plan uncertain. The house has been divided into two cottages and has
reverted back to one house. It is possible that the house was originally of 3 room
and cross or through passage plan, built down the slope with the unheated lower end
on left, entrance to left of centre, hall heated by axial stack in higher cross wall
and inner room to right heated by end stack. When the house was divided into two the
left hand cottage occupied the lower end, passage and hall and the right hand cottage
the inner room. C19 service outshut extension across rear.
Exterior: Two storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window front. C20 door to left of centre with
C20 porch to left and C20 window to right with probably inserted door beyond and
casement lighting inner room to far right. First floor with circa late C19 2-light
casement to left, 2-light casement with glazing bars removed in centre and C19
horizontal sliding sash to right.
Interior: not accessible.
