Chest tomb. Dated 1721 in memory of Daniel Meacham. Hamstone ashlar. Rectangular
in plan the chest tomb has a soffit-moulded lid with low-pitched ridge on the top.
The base is now buried. Each side has a single rectangular panel and each end has a
round-headed panel. The north side is inscribed with slightly cursive Roman serif
upper and lower case lettering and records the death of Daniel Meacham in 1721. The
west end has a secondary inscription in more formal lettering which records the
death of Daniel Slanderwick in 1784.
Fbr a Devon non-conformist monument this is both unusually early and unusually
ornate.
