of Church of St Petrock
GV II
Family vault. Circa 1852 in memory of members of Wreford family. Granite ashlar.
The front is built into the east wall of the churchyard which ramps up to meet the
vault on either side. The front comprises a 3-bay blind arcade of nowy-headed
panels and the pilasters are now protected by granite posts leaning against their
fronts. There is a forward projecting roll cornice across the. top. The plot
behind is also covered with granite ashlar rising from either side in 2 slightly
sloping steps to the concave centre section. The top is inscribed with lead
capital letters set into the granite. The oldest at the top (west end) of the
centre section records the death of William Wreford in 1852, his 2 sons, John
(1848) and William (1857), and Elina Ward Wreford (1892). To right Samuel Wreford
(died 1859) is remembered and to left John of Nichols Nymet (1846) and another John
(died 1864).
The vault faces Clannaborough Barton, the C19 home of the Wreford family.
