3/25 Lower Pitt Farmhouse including
- range of outbuildings adjoining
at left (west) end
- II
Farmhouse with outbuildings attached. Farmhouse probably early C18, extended at
right end in early C19. Outbuildings, probably late C18 to early C19. Rendered
stone rubble and cob. Slate roof with gable ends, continuous over house and
outbuilding. Ridge and right gable end stone rubble stacks to farmhouse with brick
shafts.
The range is aligned down the slope from left to right with the stables, stalls and
former small linhay converted to workshop at upper end adjoining the earlier core
of the farmhouse consisting of 2 rooms with direct entry into the left-hand room,
formerly a salting house, and heated kitchen/parlour to right. The stack is shared
with the early C19 2-room extension to the right end, though here the internal
partitions have been altered in C20. This addition was clearly intended originally
for separate occupation.
2 storeys. 5-window range. Principally C20 2-light casements, 6 panes per light.
Gabled porch with single storey flat roofed extension to right, plank door to upper
end to left of single storey lean-to well shelter projecting at right angles to
front. Former dairy outshut to rear. Former linhay to left has vertical boarding
to loft above plank doors. Stalls have square loft opening above 2 doorways.
Stable at left end symmetrical with window opening to each side of plank door.
Interior: C19 joinery including ledged doors largely intact. Bread ovens to both
hearths to the main stack. C18 pegged trusses to earlier core, C19 trusses to
extension.
