Farmhouse. early C19 slate rubble, slate hung front down to ground floor
window cill level and slate tiny right hand side. Scantle slate hipped
roof. Large rendered interval details at sides, and an axial stack in the
rear wing.
Plan: 2-room plan front range, smaller parlour to right with a shallow
dairy behind and a larger hall/kitchen to the left. A central entrance
with a porch leads to the lobby and straight staircase between the 2 front
rooms. In an integral wing behind the left hand room is the kitchen behind
which is an integral outhouse with a loft above forming an overall L-shaped
plan. The 2 front-rooms are heated from wide chimney stacks and the
kitchen is heated from an axial stack between the kitchen and the outhouse.
A back staircase rises from the kitchen in the rear wing.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Almost symmetrical 3-window range the windows and
doorway disposed slightly towards the right. Early C19 16-pane sashes,
first floor centre 12-pane sash also early C19, all with slate cills.
central doorway with flush 9-panel door with reeding and slate rubble porch
with scantle slate hipped roof and side entrance.
Early C19 2-light casements at the back, the ground floor windows to the
dairy have stanchion bars. The back doorway has a similar panelled door to
the front door. At the back of the main range and in the angle with the
rear wing a scantle slate pentice roof with a stone side wall under which
is the pump with a granite trough. The rear wing has external stone stairs
up to a plank first floor door with a slate canopy on wooden cantilevers.
Interior: not inspected but it appears to be virtually intact, complete
with its early C19 joinery such as panelled doors etc.
A remarkably unaltered early C19 farmhouse with an interesting plan.
